Rubber mats, shoes, inserts and compression socks, you have tried it all and your operators are still not properly protected from the concrete flooring.
Rubber mats are better than standing on an unforgiving surface, but they have drawbacks of their own. Their soft, spongy surface creates small movements in the feet and ankles that fatigue the operator as their body works to stay stable. The foam core of a rubber mat compresses while you are standing on them loosing their original soft and spongy feel over a short time.
Rubber mats are also difficult to clean and can catch carts wheels. Their edges curl over time creating trip hazards. Standard sizes can be difficult to fit cleanly into a production area.
A Different Way to Support the Body
Sprung flooring takes a more complete approach to meet the demands and needs of production workspaces. Sprung flooring creates a continuous, shock-absorbing surface that is stable underfoot. The wood sprung flooring harnesses the power of nature to create a flooring system that is ideal for the health of those standing on it.
The wood flexes slightly with every weight shift of a standing operator. The flexing motion of the wood sprung flooring system reduces the pressure that goes into the feet and also takes that micro movement energy and returns it to the operator with the snap-back motion of the wood returning to is original position.
How Does Sprung Flooring Work?
Sprung flooring uses an engineered combination of solid-core wood panels and a suspension system beneath them to create its anti fatigue effects. Rather than simply compressing under weight, the floor moves slightly underfoot and then quickly recovers. That recovery is where a sprung floor is fundamentally different from a mat. A rubber mat squishes down in unbalanced ways and slowly recovers while the operator has already moved on. The sprung flooring system evenly distributes the stepping load while the wood flexes and then returns energy to the worker as the floor rebounds pushing up on the foot making each movement feel lighter.
That movement of the sprung flooring system helps absorb 70% of the impact that would otherwise travel back through the feet and body. At the same time, the floor remains stable and responsive rather than soft or spongy.
For production environments where employees spend long periods standing or walking, the combination of shock absorption, stability, and energy return can make the floor an active part of their daily health. Reducing physical fatigue and making movement feel easier throughout a shift can support work performance, employee satisfaction and retention.
